Daily public radio stories get students’ attention and bring authentic voices to class.
Boston, MA: Today at the NSTA 2014 National Conference, Listen Edition, an education technology company bringing the power of public radio to the classroom, announced that they have launched a free current events app for Edmodo. The app provides a teachable public radio news story everyday and makes it easy for teachers to bring them into their Edmodo classrooms. Listen Edition engages students in a new way – bringing them real world stories that relate to what they are learning in class. Research has shown that when instruction is relevant and authentic, kids remember it better and are more engaged in the learning.

The curated stories come with thought provoking questions around the news and related curriculum themes, as well as a pre-made quiz. The daily current events can be used by middle or high school teachers in many different subjects.
Using audio stories in the classroom also strengthens student listening, a key 21st century skill. Listen Edition’s focus on auditory learning is unique in the in the industry and can make non-fiction content more accessible to all types of learners.
